Gail Rubin, CT, The Doyenne of Death®, is a pioneering death and grief educator: a Certified Thanatologist, award-winning speaker, author, and coordinator of the Before I Die New Mexico Festival. She helps start end-of-life and funeral planning conversations with a light touch on a serious subject, using humor and funny films. She’s also a TV/radio show host, Certified Funeral Celebrant and Personal Trainer for Funeral Planning. Sara Murphy, Ph.D. & Certified Thanatologist, called Gail “The Joan Jett of Death Education.”
Gail helps families reduce stress at a time of grief, minimize conflict, save money and create a meaningful, memorable “good goodbye.” Her motto is “Talking about sex won’t make you pregnant, and talking about funerals won’t make you dead.”
She’s a published author of numerous articles and the award-winning books A Good Goodbye: Funeral Planning for Those Who Don’t Plan to Die (www.AGoodGoodbye.com) and KICKING THE BUCKET LIST: 100 Downsizing and Organizing Things to Do Before You Die. She also writes The Family Plot Blog on AGoodGoodbye.com.
She’s past president of the National Speakers Association New Mexico chapter, a member of Albuquerque Challenge Toastmasters club, and an award-winning speaker. She is also past President of the New Mexico Interfaith Dialogue, helping start conversations across religions. She is also a member of the Jewish burial society and cemetery committee for her synagogue.
She also has more than 25 years experience conducting successful public relations campaigns on behalf of a wide range of national and New Mexico clients in the areas of education, entertainment, healthcare and economic development. Before becoming a PR and event planning professional, she was a TV producer with C-SPAN, the Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network.
